Standing with Your Culture

Charles Darwin implied in his studies that the environment is harsh and only those who are strong can survive it. This is also true in the business world. The big and strong companies always seem to gobble up small companies who are weak in many aspects. In order that a company may survive in the harsh business world, a company should learn how to strengthen itself on the outside and especially on the inside. A way by which a company can strengthen its intrinsic characteristics is to strengthen its culture. This culture pertains to the unique characteristics of a company that differentiates it from any other company.

A good way of strengthening a culture is to reveal the many aspects of the company to the new employees. One way of doing this is through the stories about the company old employees relate to the new comers. These stories most of the time, reflect the history of the company; how it was made and how it survive through the hard years.

Another way of improving the culture is to continuously perform the rituals of the company. These rituals will preserve the values of the organization; and how the new employees should adapt it through the years of their stay in the company. Another advocate of culture is the material symbols that should prevail in the office. Included here are the organizational layout and the uniforms that symbolize the belongingness of each employee to the company. The last thing that could strengthen the culture of an organization is the language that the whole office communicates. As time would go by, the new learners of this language will see the language as the company’s denominator.

The strong culture of a company has always been a positive factor of the success of many companies. If one wishes to survive the business world, it is recommended that they enhance their culture and be ready for all the trials in their business.
